Dementia

The Alzheimers Society run a popular group locally – Singing for the Brain which meets on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month between 2-3.30pm at St John’s Church, Main Street, Grove, OX12 7LQ.  This is a social activity for people with dementia and their carers. Anyone is welcome to join us and the session is led by the music therapist.  Refreshments are served and it is free of charge although donations are appreciated.  Contact the Alzheimers Society on 01235 531989 for further information or visit their website www.alzheimers.org.uk.

The Wantage area has a Dementia Support Worker Kate Czeczko (mobile 07889 604599).  She can offer information and practical guidance to help people understand dementia and cope with day-to-day changes.  This support is face to face, over the phone or by email.

Church Street Practice also recommends the October Club. The Club will provide a safe and comfortable Day Centre where clients will be cared for with understanding, loving care and treated with dignity. The Club aims to give relief and support to the carers and relatives of the clients attending the Day Centre. The Club will respect the rights of individual clients attending the Day Centre. Read more about it here.

There are many other services for people with dementia and their carers. Please see the Oxfordshire South and Vale Information Prescription list from Dementia Web.
